Apple developed a security feature called Activation lock, this was originally designed to prevent anyone else from using your iOS device ( iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) if it’s lost or Stolen.
For iOS 7 or later when you enable Find My iPhone on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch this will automatically enable the Activation lock Featuer
From that point on, your password will be required before anyone can turn off Find My iPhone on your device, erase your device, or reactivate and use your device
With Find My iPhone Activation Lock enabled, your Apple ID and password will be required before anyone can:
- Turn off Find My iPhone on your device
- Erase your device
- Reactivate and use your device
